Hydration . . . An Essential Element

Water for Life . . .

Our journey continues when we take care of our bodies – how has your week been?   How is the Water in Your Life?

Well, take this time to be calm and relax a little while you read my thoughts for today.  I’m continuing with hydration, an essential element for life.

Our skin is the most visible organ

We need to nourish it and keep it hydrated.  Water for Life?  Hydration is a subject that I had overlooked for a long time.  If you exercise, you need to replenish those fluids.  If you don’t exercise, you need water to keep your levels up – as adult women we are about 55 % water!  The other drinks have flavor and energy but water is what your body craves – drink it – make sure it has minerals in it.

We have a reverse osmosis system in our home and I notice a big difference when drinking that water compared to when I’m on the road and buying bottled water.  The quality does matter.

At an event, I attended people were talking about a drink.  The contents were shared that I implemented right away – WOW.  Here it is for you – good quality water (filtered or spring water), Mineral Essence, NingXia Red, Mega-Cal, ParaFree, Sulfuryzme, and a vitality essential oil for flavor, all from Young Living.  Put those 5 items in a glass bottle, shake and drink.  For me, I just feel the rejuvenation running through my body every time I drink this mixture.  Do it, our bodies need minerals as much or more than vitamins!

How much water for Hydration

Hydration comes mostly from the amount of water we consume.  A guide that I have heard many times is to calculate your weight in pounds divided in half and convert that number to ounces – approximately ½ your weight in fluid ounces of water.  That is the amount of water your body needs each day.  If you are not used to drinking that much, start slowly and as you increase the amount of water, your body will adjust and it won’t be a big issue. Your body will thank you.

Here is a resource that you can check out on dehydration by Dr. F. Bartmanghelidj, MD – You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty.  He talks about the mechanisms by which dehydration triggers such things as asthma, allergies, heartburn, fatigue, hypertension, and other illnesses.

Dr. Batmanghelidj says that thirst is not a great indicator of when to drink because, by the time you perceive thirst, you are already down about 3 cups of water.  That is 2-3 % less water.  Another tip from the book is to drink 8oz of water when you feel hungry – see if the feeling goes away.

A few steps to take in getting enough water for your hydration:

Know how much you drink currently – keep a list

Determine how much you need – calculate – do the math!

Have your water vessel handy and easy to use.

Schedule your plan to get it accomplished

Share your goals with someone – it makes a difference.

As a topical suggestion, use LavaDerm Cooling Mist and ART Renewal Serum.  Put the Serum on after cleansing your skin and before you apply the ART Light Moisturizer.  What a great way to hold in the moisture.  The LavaDerm is great throughout the day as a spritz.  Or create your own with essential oil and purified water!

Now you can take two action plans for your hydration. So long dehydration – your skin and body will thank you.
